The institute conducts investigations and research on the Maritime Silk Road both domestically and globally. Since 2019, the institute has conducted the domestic investigations consisting of "maritime religion and ritual remains". This is to secure substantial research materials on the Maritime Silk Road through co remains located in the coastal areas and ports on the route. Global investigation has the purpose of creating a network with professionals and organizations from various countries, conducting research on the Maritime Silk Road, analyzing its trends, and collecting new materials. Currently, field survey have been conducted in Indonesia, Malaysia, China, etc. which are countries located in key locations of the Maritime Silk Road.
