Investigations of the Grain Transportation System

The institute currently has conducted investigations on cultural remains on grain transportation facilities starting with granaries, service stations, fortifications, etc. to reveal the reality and meaning of grain transport since 2016. The investigations on the government-run grain transportation system consist of primary document research and secondary field surveys. Currently, there are difficulties in discovering the traces of actual grain transport cultural remains such as warehouses and ports due to natural and human changes in landscape. Thus, in the field, aerial photography using drones, topographic surveys, and interviews with residents are conducted along with actual site remains to more accurately pinpoint the locations of granaries and ports.
